Learn Spanish as a Second Language

Many of us were forced to take a language during school. We were told to expand our horizons, learn a different culture, and not only rely on English. Well obviously a lot of people did learn a different language and forgot that language by the time they ended their education. Today, you may find yourself needing some skills that you didn’t think were necessary. You may work with or do business with a large Spanish population. Even if you don’t come into contact that often with Spanish speaking people, wouldn’t it be nice to know a second language. One of the best languages for Americans to learn is Spanish.

Here are some great reasons to learn Spanish. Most linguists agree that Spanish is usually the easiest language for the American ear to hear and learn. The sounds made by Spanish speakers are common everyday sounds that you can understand. Now picture the sound of Cantonese or Russian. You can sense a big difference. Not only are English speakers more likely to understand the language easier than most, you will also be able to speak it easier than other languages.

Another great reason is that Spanish is part of the Romance languages that have its roots in Latin. What does this mean? It means that many words are similar in sound and meaning. The more closely related a language is to ours, the easier it is to learn.

But the most important thing about learning Spanish is that you can use it. For people in many cities, there are large Spanish speaking populations that prefer to speak Spanish. If you decide to travel, many parts of the world such as Spain, Mexico and South America speak the language. You can even watch Spanish TV which is beamed into practically every house with cable or a satellite dish.

So if you would like to learn a second language, choose Spanish because you can actually use it in your day to day life.
