Choosing a Domain Name

If you have decided to build a website, the first thing many people do is choose a domain name. Domain names are extremely important to some people because they name their brand on the internet. If you are planning on selling products on line, then you will want to have a snappy name that is remembered easily. Here are some tips on choosing a domain name.

What is your site about? If your site is based on information or a product that you will devote an entire site to then try to find a name that fits accordingly. Just because all the .com names are taken, look at .net or .info. You can sell your commercial products on any these sites, not only .com. Try to come up with something interesting, while gold.com says it all, it sounds pretty generic, use your sites and your personality to set a tone for the name. Don’t make your domain name more than three words. Many people have enough trouble remembering one word, they sure won’t remember four.

If you are a search engine optimizer and need to name dozens of sites, come up with an easy, organized system. It is very difficult to name only one, I can’t imagine 50. Remember hyphens are a great tool when naming, you can choose names such as gold-site, or gold-place. These names may not be taken for every keyword. Also keep in mind that .info sites are much cheaper to register but offer the same performance as .com sites. For instance there are specials regularly for $1.99 .info sites. This can save a lot when purchasing dozens of sites.
