It’s Easy to Install your Car Stereo

If you got a nice ride and you’re kind of disappointed in the stereo system currently in the car, don’t despair it’s extremely easy to install your own easily and inexpensively. Many people go to the electronics store only pick out a really nice stereo for a few hundred bucks and find that it will cost another couple hundred bucks for installation. If the electronics store is only installing the main head unit and speakers you might be saying to yourself, I’d rather be putting that money into the system instead of the electronics store’s cash register. Here is some good information if you are thinking about installing your car stereo on your own.

Today’s car stereos are extremely simple to install. The technology and compatibility with the car companies have changed considerably in the last ten years. First off, all electronics store and some major internet car audio sites offer installation kits for a fraction of what it costs to have it installed by a professional. Most installation takes less than 2 hours, many less than an hour.

There are usually three main items that must be taken care of during installation. Power supply, speaker hook ups and mounting hardware. Power hook ups are relatively easy, a possible splice of the existing power supply wire may be in order, but it usually takes only about 10 minutes.

Speakers are another easy thing to hook up. If your planning on using your existing car speakers you are in luck because the speaker wires are already labeled and in a speaker harness. All there is to do is prepare the stereos speaker wire into a matching harness that connects the two.

The last major step is the mounting hardware. Many stereos are premade to fit into most major car brands. For instance there is a host of stereos that fit directly into GM, Honda, Toyota or Chrysler cars. If the stereo is not a perfect fit, don’t worry, there are mounting kits for specific cars that snap in your stereo to make your radio look like a factory installation. So if you rather spend your money on car audio equipment instead of installation, remember it’s easy to install your stereo yourself.
